Materials Needed:
Step 1: Prepare Your Cleaning Solution
Start by filling a bowl with warm water. Add a few drops of mild dish soap to create a soapy solution. Make sure to use warm water and not hot as extreme temperatures can damage certain gemstones and metals.
Step 2: Soak Your Jewelry
Place your jewelry pieces into the bowl, ensuring they are fully submerged in the soapy water. Allow them to soak for 20-40 minutes. The soaking process helps loosen any dirt that has built up over time in the jewelry.
IMPORTANT STEP - COVER YOUR DRAIN
Before moving to the next step, if you’re working near a sink, make sure to cover the drain. This simple precaution can prevent the heartache of accidentally dropping a precious item down the drain and potentially losing it.
Step 3:
After soaking, take each piece of jewelry and gently scrub it with a new, soft-bristled toothbrush. Pay special attention to intricate designs, settings, and any crevices where dirt can easily accumulate. While cleaning pieces with diamonds or other gemstones, don’t forget to clean the back of stones, as dirt can build up there and also diminish their sparkle.
Step 4: Rinse Thoroughly
Once you’ve scrubbed your jewelry, rinse each piece under warm, running water to remove any soap residue and loosened dirt. Make sure the water flow is gentle to avoid damaging the jewelry.
Step 5: Dry and Polish
Finally, dry your jewelry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Carefully pat each piece dry, and then allow them to air dry completely before storing them away or wearing them. This step ensures that there’s no water spots left on your jewelry, keeping it shining bright.
Final Thoughts
Cleaning your jewelry at home is a simple and effective way to keep your pieces looking their best. By regularly maintaining your jewelry, you not only enhance its appearance but also extend its lifespan. Please remember to bring your jewelry into a professional at least once a year to check for damages.
Happy cleaning, and enjoy the renewed sparkle of your precious jewelry!

]]>Eco-consciousness has become a huge factor in the engagement ring industry. Celebrities are embracing ethically sourced natural gemstones and eco-friendly materials to express their love for their partner in an eco-friendly manner. Recycled metals and natural diamonds are rising in popularity within this trend.
Classic round-cut diamonds will always be a popular option, but recently we have seen a rise in unconventional diamond shapes. Celebrities have been leaning towards distinct shapes such as emerald-cut diamonds, marquises, pears, ovals, etc. Nina Agdal’s engagement ring features a 6-carat emerald cut center stone with a bullet-cut diamond on each side.
Diamonds remain the most popular choice for engagement rings, but colored gemstones such as emeralds, rubies, and sapphires are becoming increasingly popular among celebrities. From Hollywood icons to international stars, celebrities such as Rita Ora and Kate Middleton. Rita Ora’s stunning engagement ring features a 10-carat emerald-cut Columbian green, emerald set in a sparkling pave halo.
Vintage-inspired rings have been a longtime reoccurring trend, especially in the celebrity world. Celebrities have been choosing to go for rings with intricate engravings, bezel sets, milgrain detailing, and halo settings, which are characteristics often found in vintage designs. Lakeith Stanfield proposed to his girlfriend with a 2.5-carat natural diamond set on a double pave halo and twisted pave shank. These vintage touches offer a sense of nostalgia and seamlessly blend with modern characteristics to create a beautiful ring.
In contrast to the grandeur of vintage designs, many celebrities are leaning towards minimalistic designs such as Ashley Benson. Thin and delicate bands are stealing the spotlight and allowing the natural diamond to be the star of the show. While thin bands are in style, we recommend nothing smaller than a 2mm band for the safety and security of your natural diamond. Ashley Benson’s 10-carat oval diamond is a great example of a safe and thin band.
As celebrities continue to influence and set trends within the jewelry industry, the engagement rings of 2023 are a testament to the blend of sustainability, uniqueness, and personal expression. From vintage-inspired rings to minimalistic bands, there’s an engagement ring style that fits the needs and wants of every taste and personality.
Remember, while celebrity-inspired engagement rings are captivating, the most important aspect of any engagement ring is the love and commitment it represents between two people. So, whether you’re drawn to the brilliance and sustainability of natural diamonds or the allure and uniqueness of a colored gemstone, let these trends be an inspiration during your search for the perfect ring. After all, the most beautiful ring will be the one that symbolizes the love between you and your partner.
]]>A metal wedding band is a timeless and classic choice when it comes to wedding bands. The most popular metals include gold and platinum, but contemporary and alternative options such as titanium, tungsten, and Damascus are also available. A metal wedding band design complements various engagement ring settings, making it an excellent choice for many.
For those seeking extra glamour in their wedding band, pavé bands offer a brilliant way to add more sparkle. Pavé setting is where tiny diamonds are set close together, creating a continuous shimmer across your wedding band.
Channel-set bands are adorned with delicate diamonds or accent gems, securely nestled within two metal channels. These styles are ideal for couples searching for exquisite wedding ring designs.
Eternity bands symbolize eternal love and commitment. Featuring a continuous line of gemstones, typically diamonds, encircling the entire band, these rings are among the most popular styles. Eternity bands are available in various designs, and you can choose between a full, ¾, or even ½ eternity band. From classic round-cut diamonds to intricate designs, eternity bands cater to a wide range of preferences.
Now that we've explored different styles, let's consider a few essential factors:
Begin by seeking inspiration on platforms like Pinterest. Gather ideas for bands that resonate with your personal style. If you lean towards Art Deco, consider options like a ballerina/headdress band or a thick gold band. If you're contemplating a custom band, be sure to allow ample time for collaboration with your jeweler. We recommend allowing at least 8-12 weeks for style adjustments and modifications, but this timeline can vary depending on the level of customization.
When selecting a wedding band, practicality for your lifestyle is crucial. Think about which band not only fills you with joy but also aligns with your daily activities. For instance, if you work in a hands-on profession, an eternity band might not be the best fit. In such cases, consider having a silicone band for moments when you're concerned about potential ring damage.
Contemplate how your wedding band will complement your engagement ring. Do you want your main diamond to take center stage, or would you like to enhance the overall ring? Consider whether you want to always wear them together or occasionally separately. Mixing metals is also an important consideration. Once you've answered these questions, you're one step closer to your ideal wedding band!
Keep an open mind throughout this process. Similar to selecting a wedding dress, your wedding bands should reflect your personal style. Be flexible and try on bands you may not have initially considered. When choosing a wedding band, there are no hard and fast rules, so feel free to mix and match or even select more than one band if you desire. While the process may seem daunting, remember that professionals are here to guide you in choosing bands that suit your lifestyle and personal style best. And most importantly, enjoy this time as a bride and try on as many sparkly bands as you'd like!

Before we delve into the different shapes, let’s define what a diamond shape is. A natural diamond shape refers to the geometric outline of the diamond. The term “cut” can also be used interchangeably when describing a diamond’s shape. For example, we have “emerald cut” and “cushion shape” natural diamonds. In this blog post, we will be going over two categories of shapes – round diamonds, and “fancy shapes” which are oval, pear, cushion, marquise, and emerald natural diamonds.
Now, let’s figure out which shape is right for you.
When picturing a diamond ring, the first shape you normally think of is a round diamond. Round diamonds are the most iconic and timeless shape for an engagement ring. In 1919, Marcel Tolkowsky revolutionized the round cut by designing a diamond with 58 facets, a groundbreaking innovation that unleashed a mesmerizing dance of light, never witnessed before from this classic shape. Round brilliant-cut natural diamonds are favored for their versatility, making them a perfect choice for numerous reasons; their elegance complements simple settings, while also serving as an ideal foundation for crafting more intricate and imaginative artistic designs.
The oval diamond is considered the artistic cousin of the round brilliant due to its elongating quality. It features 58 facets and elegantly reaches up the finger creating a more dramatic effect and illusion of longer fingers. Ovals gained popularity during the early 20th century as gem-cutting techniques advanced, allowing lapidaries to enhance the graceful curves of the gems. Oval natural diamonds cater to both minimalistic and artistic designs which makes them a great choice.
Pear-shaped, also known as teardrop, natural diamonds have been a part of jewelry history since the 15th century. Its tapered point and rounded end create a distinctive look. Though modern pears with 57 facets have a rich history of appearing in engagement rings, their contemporary usage is vastly different. We are seeing more engagement rings with setting the pear-shaped east to west or slightly offset. They are traditionally set with the tapered point up, but we are also seeing this flipped so that the point is facing down. Pear-shaped natural diamonds strike a balance between the classic and the unconventional, offering a happy medium for those seeking a unique yet timeless shape.
The cushion-cut diamond showcases a square or rectangular shape with rounded corners, reminiscent of a cushion or pillow. The curves on the natural diamond help reflect light and enhance the brilliance of the diamond. Cushion-cut diamonds are a vintage-inspired shape that was a popular choice throughout history, dating back to the eighteenth century. These natural diamonds are an excellent choice for individuals seeking a vintage-inspired look and feel, allowing them to customize their rings with timeless elegance.
The marquise natural diamond features an elongated shape with pointed ends, resembling a boat or an eye. Legend has it that this shape was created during the 18th-century reign of Louis XV, when he was so enamored by his mistress’ lips that he commissioned a royal jeweler to create a design and shape that mirrored her lips. Referred to as navette shapes, these natural diamonds are now commonly set horizontally, spanning across the hand rather than vertically up the finger, resulting in a contemporary appearance that deviates from their traditional vintage charm. Whether you have an heirloom marquise diamond or simply adore this shape, restyling it in this modern look offers a fantastic way to breathe new life into its allure.
Historically once the most popular shape for emeralds, emerald-cut diamonds are generally rectangular but can also come in square shapes. This shape emphasizes clarity over brilliance, making it an ideal choice for those who appreciate a sleek and sophisticated appearance. Due to its elongated shape, the emerald cut can create the illusion of longer, slender fingers, making it a popular choice for those who want a ring that complements their hand's natural features. This diamond shape is versatile and pairs beautifully with various settings, from classic solitaires to elaborate vintage-inspired designs.
Choosing the perfect diamond shape for an engagement ring goes beyond aesthetics; it is an expression of emotions, individuality, and the profound love shared between two people. Whether you are drawn to the classic allure of a round natural diamond, the captivating charm of a marquise, or the sleek refinement of an emerald cut, your chosen natural diamond will embody the everlasting commitment between you and your partner.
Your engagement ring should be a unique reflection of your personality and style, making the selection process more special. With a plethora of options to explore, the journey to finding the ideal diamond shape will be filled with wonder and excitement. Each shape holds its own story and symbolism, waiting for you to discover the one that resonates most deeply with your heart.
At the bottom of this blog post, we've prepared an interactive diamond quiz to guide you in discovering the diamond shape that aligns best with your preferences and style. So, let's embark on this journey together, and may your chosen diamond shape become a cherished token of eternal love.

]]>One of the most telling signs that a vintage Omega watch dial has been repainted is that the font and printing may not match the original. Look closely at the lettering and numbering on the dial and compare it to images of the original dial for that particular watch model. If there are any differences in the font or printing, this may be a sign that the dial has been repainted.
Vintage Omega watch dials should show signs of aging, such as patina, discoloration, and wear. If the dial looks too clean and pristine, this may be a sign that it has been repainted or restored. Similarly, if the watch appears to be in too good condition overall, this could be a red flag that it has been heavily restored.
Another way to tell if a vintage Omega watch dial has been repainted is to look for inconsistencies in the coloring and texture of the dial. A repainted dial may have variations in color or texture that are not present in the original dial. Additionally, if there is any unevenness or bubbling in the paint, this is a clear indication that the dial has been repainted.
Most vintage Omega watch dials will have manufacturer marks on them, such as the Omega logo, model number, and serial number. These marks should be clear and legible, and they should match the markings of the original watch model. If any of these marks are missing or unclear, this could be a sign that the dial has been repainted or replaced.
In conclusion, checking the authenticity of the dial is crucial when buying a vintage Omega watch. By looking for inconsistencies in font and printing, signs of aging, consistency in coloring and texture, and original manufacturer marks, you can better assess if the dial has been repainted or restored. Always be sure to purchase from a reputable dealer who can provide documentation and authentication to ensure that you're getting a genuine vintage Omega watch.
]]>I do not sell diamonds! Sounds weird, right? After all, I work for Donald Haack Diamonds. Let me explain.
]]>Sounds weird, right? After all, I work for Donald Haack Diamonds.
Let me explain.
When a client comes into Donald Haack Diamonds for an engagement ring they have usually been shopping around town, learning all their options.
They have seen diamonds and heard several "presentations" on diamonds.
Then they come into Donald Haack Diamonds.
The first thing I do is dispel all misinformation they have been told before meeting me. And there is A LOT of misinformation out there.
Then I explain how diamonds are evaluated and their value. I explain all the nuances that lead to a fairly priced diamond, hopefully increasing the customer's knowledge so that they can feel confident and comfortable about their purchase.
The phrase 'I sell diamonds' sounds like I'm waiting around for someone to come into the store so I can sell something from one of our cases.
I could say also, 'I am a salesperson’. This infers that I push the client into believing what I have on hand is the perfect choice for them. It sounds as if I don't take into account what they really want, but instead, push a sale for something I already have.
This is why I don't sell diamonds. This is why I am not a sales person.
This is what I actually do:
1. I listen.
When a client comes into work with me, first we sit down. I ask them what they understand about diamonds and what their goal is in finding that perfect diamond. Some people want the largest diamond. Others want the highest color available for their planned budget. Everyone has different goals and my job is to listen, guide where needed, and give them the best options to attain those goals.
If I do this well, my client is the hero. When he presents his diamond to his lady, he should feel proud and excited about that diamond. She should be thrilled. That is my goal.
2. I research.
First, I see if my current inventory meets their needs. If I have options that work for this client, excellent! We look over each option, go over all details, and finalize ring setting designs.
However, sometimes I don't have their perfect diamond and then I search for it.
Does this mean it costs more? No.
Is this bad for the client? No. I am providing a concierge service for my customer at no extra charge.
A larger inventory means more choices, yes. But it also means more cash tied up in the inventory which is then pushed to be sold- fast. This may not be best for the customer.
We cherry-pick our inventory, carefully buying daily to keep our selection diverse. We also have excellent relationships with our suppliers who know our standards and honor our requests by sending in merchandise overnight.
In short, the vendors we choose to work with treat us as carefully as we treat our customers. The vendors ask questions. They listen and they assist us in assisting our customers. We can rely on them. The customer can rely on us.
3. I scrutinize.
I use our resources to find the diamond that is the perfect match for my client: the ideal size, cut, color and clarity.
I examine the details, sort through options from all over the country, (sometimes the world), to make sure it is the best diamond.
I do this by contacting our hand selected and trusted vendors using years of experience and established connections.
When I do my job, and present the best possible options to my client, he can then make a stress-free decision. I make it easy.
4. I design.
Then I get to design the engagement ring that meets the client's expectations — listening to what she likes and what he wants.
So, what is my job?
I don’t SELL diamonds and am not a salesperson.
I am a listening-researching-scrutinizing-advising-designing-to find the perfect diamond guru!
I create the best diamond engagement ring within the client's budget every time!
The proposer is the champion and when he proposes with her perfect ring and she begins to cry while saying, "YES!" they will remember this moment for the rest of their lives.
It all begins with "Welcome to Donald Haack Diamonds!"
]]>In this business, we meet people everyday. Every person has a story and the very best stories have a keepsake to hold that memory. That is what jewelry is. It’s a memory, a memory that stays with us.
The most obvious is the engagement ring and wedding ring. As corny as it sounds, to this day, when I put on my engagement ring I remember the day my husband proposed. I remember the silly way he was acting all day and how I was irritated with his demeanor. How he seemed standoffish. As it turns out he was nervous, rehearsing in his head how and when he’d finally pop the question. The moment came. Walking along a pier in Murrells Inlet at sunset, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. No long speech, no crazy declarations, just a simple question...represented in a beautiful ring. Of course, I said “Yes!”.
Then there are moments that are meaningful and memorable with friends and/or family.
I have the cross necklace my father gave me for my 16th birthday. I still wear it to this day. At the time, I didn’t fully understand the significance of the gift. My father didn’t make a lot of money. I knew this and I never expected a car, or a trip to Italy for my 16th. However he had saved up so that I could have a real gold cross on a lovely gold chain. Nicely made and of high quality. He wanted me to have something I could wear forever. Now, when I wear this necklace, I acknowledge his sacrifice and his hard work. I see the love he had for me and his hope that I’d grow to appreciate such things and cherish them beyond their monetary value. Of course I did and still do.
My favorite jewelry gift memory from childhood goes way back.
I was probably around 7 or 8 years old. I would visit my Father every summer. During the day while he was at work, I attended a summer camp. We went swimming, hiking, had crafts and game time. It was a care-free time for me and I was a fun and outgoing girl. We liked to play pranks on each other. So one day I was standing on a chair behind a door, waiting for the next unsuspecting person to walk in so I could jump down and scare them. A boy my age, Josh, came around the corner and I jumped down. To my dismay as I landed I twisted my ankle badly and was taken to the hospital. I was placed on crutches for two weeks and could not return to camp. My father took me back a couple days later to say goodbye to my friends and collect my belongings. Just before we left I was buckling my seatbelt and Josh came running out of the building. I thought he was coming to tell me that I had forgotten something. I rolled down the window as he approached. Out of breath, he said “I told my Mom that I liked you and she said I should give you this!”. At which point he threw a box at me. It bounced off my temple and fell in my lap. Josh ran away back into the building. My dad sat there smirking. I opened the box. It was a little silver heart necklace with a white crystal in the corner.
I don’t have that necklace anymore, sadly it was lost to me. I never saw Josh again. But I do think of him and that moment every time I see a heart necklace.
Jewelry has a way of connecting us to moments in time. It reminds us of feelings of joy, love, and excitement. It can make connections through generations. How many of us wear our Grandmother’s ring, or our Mother’s pearls? Our Grandfather’s signet ring, or Dad’s college ring?
Jewelry is so much more than just fashion. It carries feelings, celebrations, it marks time ... It’s part of your story. Make sure you tell it well - with jewelry that is made well, to last.
]]>The marquise cut diamond was a very popular choice for engagement rings in the late 70’s and through the ‘80s.
However, the history of the marquise cut dates back much further. During the 18th century, King Louis XV of France had his jeweler design a diamond cut to resemble the lips of his mistress, Jean Antoinette Poisson, the Marchioness Madame de Pompador. Hence the name, Marquise cut.
We are now seeing women seeking new and updated designs for this unique cut diamond. You can really have some fun updating this cut. What was old is now new again.
You can set it sideways and frame it in diamond guard. Parade Designs has done an excellent job of that here. Simple, elegant and refined.
Another way to modernize your marquise cut is to set it in a halo style. Halo engagement rings are still the hottest design and most requested right now. (2017)
It also gives your marquise a boost in visual size. So if you’ve often felt that your diamond was a bit small, this design will delight you with it’s increase in space.
To change the look of your ring, you can try adding other diamond shapes to the design. Accenting your marquise with baguettes or emerald cuts can give your ring a refreshing change.
So what do you do if you have an anniversary band with many smaller marquise cut diamonds? Can you restyle this style ring?
The answer is Yes!
Even these smaller marquise diamonds can be repurposed into some really pretty and fun designs.
You can take them and make earrings. Like this:
Or you can have them set into a marquise stacking band.
Let’s not forget the pendant style as well.
The marquise diamond cut has a beautiful history and a memorable love story. Don’t let your diamond sit in a drawer, unworn and unloved. Find the perfect design that suits you and your diamond. If you need a little more inspiration, well...we can help with that.
When I look at a piece of jewelry from the Alex Sepkus collection I am often struck by how extraordinary the work is. That makes sense since Alex is an extraordinary person. He is inspired by so much, architecture, nature, novels and his imagination. These elements combine to lead him to design some of the most interesting and stunning jewelry today.
An Alex Sepkus piece is truly a work of art. Alex created a special tool to make the unique finish and textures in the metal. When examined under a microscope or loop it's easy to appreciate this attention to detail.
It’s this type of work, paired with his eye for design that makes Alex Sepkus jewelry so special.
My top 5 favorite Alex Sepkus jewelry designs are:
1. Anything with the faces inspired by The Big Sleep.
The Big Sleep is a crime novel by Raymond Chandler. Alex was so inspired by this book that he adapted this jewelry set into "faces" beads and accents.
Mayan gold jewelry. Okay, so these rings and pendants aren’t actually Mayan gold. However, these designs make me think of art and culture of the Mayan Empire. I see serpents and figures in the swirls and curls. It’s like looking at hieroglyphs.
Any of his crosses. A cross with a look of history. We see a hundred diamond cross necklaces, or plain gold crosses in this business. Alex Sepkus crosses are simple, yet stunning. Petite with a punch. A great cross pendant to wear every day, and set yourself apart from all the other cross pendants.
The Swirling Water ring. I try this ring on often. Every time I do I look at it and picture water from a stream caressing the pebbles and rocks. This ring has such a beautiful and calming effect, very flowing and natural looking. It’s perfect for the woman who loves a low band and an organic look.
Little windows. When I see a design from the Little Windows collection I'm reminded of a cityscape. I can almost picture tall skyscrapers with infinite widows blinking with lights. Whether you are a fan of New York City or San Francisco, you can see how these pieces have an architectural look to them.

He designed hydroelectric systems to generate consistent power supplies for these hospitals that otherwise relied on diesel generators to power the hospitals twenty-four hours a day. The lack of electricity hindered the hospital's ability to provide safe, sanitary and consistent medical care to its villages.
In 1993 while working in Papua New Guinea, Hugh was approached by a missionary and asked if he would like to take home some Papua New Guinea gold. He was intrigued by the opportunity and brought two nuggets of gold back to the USA with him.
Twenty-four years later Hugh asked Donald Haack Diamonds to help design four pieces of jewelry with the Papua New Guinea gold.
He wanted to give his four daughters something that would remind them of his great adventures through his work as an engineer for mission hospitals.
Donald Haack Diamonds designed four gold bar necklaces featuring his love for the girls with his signature, "Love Daddy."
These necklaces are a reminder of the great work and dedication of a man who loves God and family and helped make the world a better place.

Our buyers attend every year with a critical eye and a game plan. They are hunting for those "hidden gems" - Unique jewelry and one of a kind selections for our discerning clients who have a signature looks. And yes! We found many treasures!
We noted a few trends from the 2017 show:
Stacking rings have been a popular style for a couple of years now and have not lost any momentum. This concept allows each client to personalize the look by choosing their own combination of rings. Brides can stack rings in lieu of a traditional wedding set, and fashionistas stack rings for a unique right hand look.
Stacking rings can be found in most different colors of gold with a variety of diamond shape options. A diamond band is not limited to a straight line of round diamonds or princess cut diamonds anymore. The traditional diamond band has been updated with a plethora of options. These options come with different shapes, metal textures, and colors.
Another great idea for stacking rings is to incorporate your favorite color gemstone. Typically you can find options in sapphire, ruby or emerald. But other colors are available by special order. By mixing your favorite color with diamonds your options become endless.
For an interactive platform, you can visit www.joliedesigns.com to build your stack rings and customize the final look.
Statement Bracelets were something that really stood out at the show. We saw wide intricate cuffs and bangles, with either woven metal or inset with diamonds. Considering the popularity of the movie Wonder Woman, it is not hard to see this look giving women a sense of empowerment. It’s bold and feminine.
An option with diamonds could give a wide bracelet a “dressy” look. However, when you see what we found in rose gold and chocolate diamonds, you can see how we fell in love with the concept of artistic diamonds. This bracelet lets you wear your diamonds in a funky, cool and eclectic way. Picture this with a pair of fitted jeans, a classic white tee, and your favorite strappy sandals. You’ll get points for looking casual chic.
Or, for a more affordable option, we saw beautiful designs in sterling silver. Wide silver cuffs with woven designs or braided patterns were hot. These designs can be more affordable added to your jewelry wardrobe. Wear single or in layers.
If you are hesitant to wear such a wide bracelet, but you still want to achieve that same wide bold look, then you’ll want to explore stacking thin bracelets together. This is similar to the stacking rings concept. You can have a lot of fun mixing and matching textures, gemstones, beads and metals, and materials to find your personalized look. This photo is from our Luca by Lecil Henderson collection which is handmade in Italy.
One of our buyers made note of Y necklaces being prominent. Y necklaces in yellow gold, white gold and silver, with diamonds or without diamonds, with tassels or a simple charm. The style for the summer is Y necklaces. This is a great compliment for women as it elongates the neck and draws the eye downward.
It’s another great jewelry concept that can be worn for any occasion. You can pair that same white tee and blue jeans with your wide cuff and a stylish Y necklace. Or you can wear your favorite halter V neck cocktail dress and add a Y necklace with a diamond drop at the end for that upscale sparkle.
Long necklaces have been in style for a few years now, and this is a style we love. You can have a lot of fun with long necklaces. You can layer them with shorter necklaces, wear them down your front or back. Whether you choose one simple long chain, layered with beads and gemstones, or a long diamond Riviera necklace.
There is a long necklace for every budget and for every outfit. Your style and outfit can be enhanced by the right long necklace, even to the level of Red Carpet Glam!
And finally…
Jewelry trends come and go and it's great to know the current style, but at the end of the day your jewelry is a reflection on your personal style. Go with what you love and what you are drawn to. Wear what excites you and what makes you feel beautiful, stylish, and confident.
Enjoy creating your own signature look, and rock that look!

Remember how mom always told you that the only thing she really wants for her birthday is YOU? Well, that’s still true. . . maybe truer now than ever before with the pace of modern life taking you and your loved ones in different directions at all hours of the day and night. So if giving mom your undivided attention is not an option this year, consider surprising her with a distinctive piece of jewelry that will offer triple dividends for your thoughtfulness. How does one gift provide distinct value in three ways? Keep reading for the answer . . .
Surprise and Delight
The first priceless moment occurs when you present the gift to her. She’ll be excited to see what item you picked out for her and very likely put it on (and not take it off!) for the rest of the day. The way she looks in the mirror to admire it on herself will let you know how well you did selecting the item, but she’ll also enjoy the compliments of others she hears when friends and even strangers notice the new and hand-picked-just-for-her jewelry she is wearing.
Sentimental Value
The second way that jewelry can pay dividends is when it goes up in value. While most commodities brokers agree that only loose cut diamonds are reliable investments for these purposes - if your mom is an undercover arms dealer who needs to pay for weapons she’s smuggling into the country - then this is a great option! But on a more serious note - your jewelry gift will grow in sentimental value if it is passed down from generation to generation. Additionally, if you work with an experienced jeweler, you’ll be guided towards choosing a quality stone that will have broad appeal through the ages. Finally, a superior setting will ensure that mom’s gift doesn’t get lost due to a loose bracket or faulty clasp.
The Gift That Keeps On Giving
Last but not least, fast forward three years from now and imagine your mom surveying her jewelry box and carefully pulling out the pendant you purchased for her (or the tennis bracelet or earrings.) She will undoubtedly think of you and smile each and every time she puts it on in the future. Julie Haack of Donald Haack Diamonds and Fine Gems calls this the “Principle of Potentiality.” In a nutshell, it means that your gift reminds your mom of your love for her every time she sees it (and stirring this positive feeling in her is like giving your mom a mini-gift that never runs out of steam!)
So there you have it: Three distinct ways that honoring your one-and-only mother with a one-of-a-kind present of jewelry (on her birthday - or any holiday) will be worth infinitely more than you pay for it. Need some ideas? When your wedding is over and you set off on your honeymoon...remember this. The dress was worn, and will be cleaned and stored. The cake was eaten, the drinks were consumed, the food was enjoyed, the band has played, the guests have left (and probably taken your centerpieces!). Your wedding was a great success and everyone had a great time. And now it's over.
But your wedding bands....they still are on your hands. Two symbols, forever reminders of your vows and your commitment to each other and the love that you share. There are two tangible things that last from your wedding day: Your photographs /videos (so definitely hire a great photographer) and your wedding bands (so definitely go to a great jeweler: Me). These are the parts of the wedding I suggest never cutting back on, because they (like your love) are the parts that last. So get the bands you truly want.
Here are some key questions to ask before you ask for and pay for an appraisal of your jewelry:
1. “Why do I need an appraisal?”
Having your jewelry appraised correctly and accurately is very important for both you and your insurance company so that if your jewelry is lost, stolen or damaged it can be used by the insurance company to quote the replacement and by the jeweler to replicate it exactly.
2. “How often should I have my jewelry re appraised?"
We usually recommend getting your appraisal values checked every three to five years. As precious metals fluctuate daily with the stock market.
3. “How much will it cost today to repair or replace it?”
It depends on the piece of jewelry, the complexity, the craftsmanship, the diamond weights, color, clarity, the weight of precious metal. Your appraisal needs to accurately reflect replacement cost with a little bit of a buffer for changes in the values over three to five years.
4. “How much will an appraisal cost?”
We charge $100 for the first item and the subsequent items will be charged at $75 each unless they are very complex.
5. “For how many years will this replacement figure be accurate?”
For about three to five years. There may be no change but you should have it checked that often to be sure the stated value is still current.
6. “How much experience should my appraiser have?”
The more years they have worked with jewelry, the better. Ask around for others opinions on the work of the appraiser. Our Scott Falconer has been in the business for decades and is sought after by professionals who are familiar with his accuracy and detail.
7. “Is the appraiser a Graduate Gemologist?”
Make sure you have a Graduate Gemologist or certified jewelry appraiser prepare your appraisals. They are professionals that understand and are familiar with changing market values of metals, diamonds and precious gemstones.
